Funeral Services Held at Maxwell for W. T. John

Special to the Journal.
Maxwell, Feb. 8--The funeral services for W. T. John, who passed away Saturday, were held in the Presbyterian church Monday at 2 o'clock. A short service was held at the home. Mrs. Ray Gooden sang "Have Thine Own Way, Lord," accompanied by Mrs. Wm. Trotter and Mrs. Collins of Des Moines sang "Good Night." Rev. Guthrie read the scripture lesson and the services were concluded with a prayer by Rev. Scheuermann.

The church services were conducted by Rev. Schuermann assisted by Rev. Guthrie. Rev. Scheuermann's discourse was interspersed with poems and very touching readings.

Mr. Collins of Des Moines sang "Rocked in the Cradle of the Deep," a favorite of the deceased; "Perfect Day" and "Crossing the Bar." Mr. Monroe of Des Moines accompanied Mr. Collins at the piano.

Mrs. Guy Cooper and Mrs. Geo. Cole assisted with the floral offerings which were very beautiful.

The pall bearers were five nephews, Donald Gardner and Eldon Gardner, Eric Pearson, Sidney John, Dale John and Paul Olinger. The following close friends of the deceased accompanied the pall bearers: D. C. Mingle, Guy Cooper, C. R. Posten, R. B. Bullard, George Gamble, S. G. Sherman, Wilbur Warner, O. F. Strombeck and H. B. Couch Interment was in the Maxwell cemetery.

William Tipton John, youngest son of Daniel W. and Barbara Olinger John, was born on the old home far, near Maxwell, now occupied by Clark John, Oct. 9, 1833, and died at the home of Mrs. Simon Meyers and Mrs. John, Maxwell, February 1, 1935, at the age of 51 years, 3 months and 22 days. He grew to manhood in Maxwell and the latter part of his life was spent in Algona, Burt and Maxwell.

On March 6, 1913, he was married to Lula Meyers of Maxwell, who survives him. He is also survived by two brothers, John J. of Burt, Iowa and Clark John of Maxwell; also three sisters, Mrs. Edith Oxford of Orchard, Wash., Mrs. Lizzie McCashen of Miss Rose E. John of Maxwell.

Those of his family who preceded him in death are his parents and two sisters, Mrs. Cynthia Brown and Mary M. John. He is also survived by a host of friends.

Will was early enlisted in the interests and activities of the church in which he freely participated. He maintained his interest in the purposes of the church and was sympathetic with her gospel message.

He was a friendly man and one of his chief sources of pleasure and enjoyment was in friendships he formed and maintained. He was intensely interested in the welfare of his friends, often sacrificed his own interests in their behalf and was always solicitous of their comfort and happiness. Thus will be remembered by his companion whom he leaves behind and by those many others whom he held close to his heart.

Gardner, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gardner, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Pearson and Eldon Gardner of Perry; Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Ray, son Robert and daughter Donna Mae of Mingo; Miss Helen Ray, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Dickens, Mr.a nd Mrs. Chas. Beck and daughter Vernadine, Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Couch, Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Barber, Mr. and Mrs. Basil Cord, Mrs. Emma Funk, Mrs. Mary Schaffer and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Mowen of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Burt Pike of Rhodes; Mrs. Margaret Hull of Perry; Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Finnie and Chas. Longnecker of Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Coughlin of Mingo, Chas. E. Brown and M. C. Galpin of the Mutual Life Insurance Company of Des Moines.
