PIONEER ZEARING MERCHANT DEAD
GEORGE ROBERTS HAD BEEN IN MEAT AND OTHER BUSINESSES

Zearing, Oct. 15--George B. Roberts, 65, retired businessman of Zearing, passed away Sunday morning, October 14 about 6 o'clock at Johnson's hospital in Chanute, Kans. He had been in the hospital three weeks and was convalescing following a series of operations when pneumonia developed and he passed away in a few hours.His brother, Lucian Roberts, who resides in Chanute and who was at his bedside almost constantly, accompanied his remains to Zearing, arriving here this morning.
His sister, Mrs. M. L. Hinecker, of Zearing, was also at his bedside until about a week ago when she returned to her home in Zearing after he has made such rapid recovery. His death came as a distinct shock to relatives and to the community.
Mr. Roberts was born in Illinois Grove, north of Zearing, and had always lived in that vicinity and in Zearing, except a few years in State Center and in Nebraska from 1878 to 1893.
He was well and favorably known here. He head kept the home together for his brothers after the death of his parents and had also performed may acts of kindness in the community.
He has three sisters surviving, Mrs. Josie Surber, of Oregon City, Oregon, Mrs. Dott Kersey, of Marshalltown and Mrs. Mae Hinecker, of Zearing; three brothers, Lucian, of Chanute, Kansas and Abby and Harry at home.
His parents and a brother Quincy and an infant brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Brouhard Funeral Home. Rev. C. A. Claypool will have charge of the services. Burial will be in the family lot at Marshalltown.
