THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, 23 March, 1905, page 1, column 5. "Obituary - George W. Tovey, of 1027 16th St., Des Moines, died at his home Monday, March 13th. He was born in Mercer county, Pa., November 11, 1849, and came to Iowa in 1855 in company with his father, brother and sister; his mother died when he was but three years old. The family located near Dallas Center and in 1884 Mr. Tovey moved to Des Moines. He was married in Ohio, April 17, 1884 to Miss Dora Westonhouser, and leaves a wife, one son, one brother, Reuben Tovey, Twin Bridge, Mont., and two sisters, Mrs. M. M. Woodrow, of Sherman, Texas and Mrs. J. O. Gardiner, of Maxwell. The cause of Mr. Tovey's death was paralysis, this being his third stroke, the first one occurring eight years and the second one four years ago. Mr. Tovey taught school over in the Swalwell district about twenty years ago and will probably be remembered by many people of that community. The funeral was conducted at the home Thursday, March 16th, and interment was made in Woodland cemetery. He was a man of upright character and the bereaved family will have the sincere sympathy of many friends."
