MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, May 30 1963, page 4: MAXWELL RESIDENT DIES IN INDIANOLA AT THE AGE OF 91 - S. J. Tomlinson, 91, former Maxwell resident, died at the home of his son in Indianola Thursday night, May 23, 1963. He suffered a heart attack in February and had been in failing health since that time. Tomlinson was born south of Maxwell in 1872 in Polk County and had lived his entire life in the Maxwell community. In 1960 he left to make his home with his son in Indianola. Survivors are the son, Kenneth of Indianola, one grandchild, a sister, Mrs. Teresa Cook of Des Moines and a brother, A. E. Tomlinson of Maxwell. The deceased was awarded a 50-year certificate in both the Masonic and Eastern Star Lodges in 1962. Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 26, at the Cooper Funeral Home at 2 p. m., with Rev. Walter Scheuermann officiating. Wanda Carlson accompanied by Virginia Fertig sang, "The Lord's Prayer" and "God's Tomorrow." The floral sprays were arranged and cared for by Doris Duesbury and Reva Morrison. Casket bearers were Henry Thornwall, A. M. Christy, Jack Viers, Ray Martin, Henry Duesbury and C. R. Stone. Interment was in the Peoria Cemetery."
