BRING HER ASHES FROM CALIFORNIA
WILL BE DEPOSITED IN GRAVE BY THE SIDE OF HER HUSBAND AT COLLEGE
Ames, May 14--There will be much local interest in the burial service to held at the college cemetery next Sunday when the ashes of the first teacher of home economics in Iowa State college of any other land-grant institution Mrs. Mary B. Welch, recently deceased, will be buried with appropriate public services. They will be placed beside the grave of her husband, President A. S. Welch who was the first head of the college.
Mrs. Welch died Jan. 2, in California at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. B. Shaw. At that time her body was cremated. The ashes will be accompanied to Ames by Dr. and Mrs. Shaw.
Because of Mrs. Welch's high place as a pioneer in home economics education, the burial of her ashes will be attended by a number of prominent educators from other institutions, as well as the many old time students of the college who knew her in the days of her residence in Ames. President R. A. Pearson will make the principal address of the burial exercises and Treasurer Herman Knapp and Dr. A. H. Cessna former friends also will participate. The home economics faculty and students of the college will attend in a body. The services will be held at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon, May 20.
