PIONEER WOMAN DIED EARLY TODAY

MRS. DILLA WALDRON PASSED AWAY AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Mrs. Dilla Waldron, 84, died early today at her home 435 K avenue, corner Fifth street, after a long illness of complications due to her advanced years.

The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 at the Morfoot funeral home, after which interment will be in the Nevada cemetery.

Mrs. Waldron had been a resident of Iowa for over seventy years, coming her in 1858 from Kenton, Hardin county, Ohio, where she was born, Philidine Letson, May 3, 1845. She was one of the five daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Christian B. Letson, pioneers of the city.

She was married to John V. Waldron July 1, 1879, the husband passing away December 20, 1910.

Mrs. Waldron had always been active in civic affairs of the city. She was one of the early day school teachers and during later years had given much of her time to matters of public interest, having spent over thirteen years as secretary and treasurer of the Nevada Cemetery society. She was an active member of the original Woman's club of Nevada, of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of the Thimble club.

She is the last of the six children of Mr. and Mrs. Letson's family. The one brother Warren Letson died some years ago and is interred in the Nevada cemetery. The sisters, all deceased were Mrs. Lydia Lockridge of Nevada, Mrs. Rachael Miller of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Helen Balliet of Des Moines and Mrs. Levina Zwilling of Nevada.

She leaves a large group of nieces and nephews. The nieces are Mrs. T. P. Worsley of Nevada, Mrs. L. A. Will of Salina, Kans., Mrs. J. E. Drybread and Mrs. E. S. Armsrong of Nevada, all daughter of Mrs Lockridge; Letson Balliet, Stephana Balliet, Christina Balliet, Mrs. Fred Keithley and Joe Balliet, all children of Mrs. Helen Balliet; George Letson, Mrs. Florence Smith and Mrs. William Allen, children of Warren Letson; and John Miller of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Edward Holt of Miami, Florida, children of Mrs. Miller.

All of the nephews and nieces will be here for the funeral services with the exceptions of Mrs. Florence Letson-Smith and Mrs. William Letson-Allen, who live in California.
