OBITUARY OF JOHN HAUKOOS [SHOULD BE OLE HAUKOOS]
Had Been Resident of County Since 1874.
Special to the Journal.
McCallsburg, May 2--Ole Haukoos a pioneer of Warren township whose death was mentioned in Monday's Journal was buried Monday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Benson who spoke the words of comfort and sympathy to the bereaved and to all friends present. Mrs. Benson and Mr. John Helland sang a duet before the sermon and Mrs. Benson and Miss Blanche Helland sang a duet after the sermon.The deceased was born in Norway Dec. 3, 1838. He came to America to Ottawa, Ill., in 1864. The 27th of April 1869 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Johnson. In the fall of the same year they came to Roland. In the year 1874 they moved onto a farm three and one half miles northwest of town. Here they resided until they retired eight years ago in March and moved to town where they have lived since and where he passed away, April 27, at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 25 days.
Mr. Haukoos has been a man of good health until about the last year when it seemed that he began failing. About nine weeks ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he never recovered.
He leaves his wife and one daughter and five sons, namely Mrs. Julia Hauskins of Cedar Rapids, Lars who has always made his home with his parents, Martin living here, Peter of Waters, Minn., Carl and Oscar living near Woden, Ia. There war also twenty-four grandchildren and sever great grandchildren.
His body was laid to rest in mother earth until that Great Morning when he shall be called forth by the voice of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The children were all present at the funeral.
