Funeral Services For John C. Joor

Funeral services for John C. Joor, former Maxwell resident were held recently at the Cooper Funeral Home with Rev. Stanley Farmer officiating.

Mrs. Thomas Clark of Des Moines was the soloist, accompanied by Mrs. James Summitt at the organ. The following brief account of his life was read.

Obituary

John C. Joor was born to Peter and Esther Joor on May 18, 1892 in Maxwell, Iowa. He grew to manhood here and graduated from High School in 1909. After graduating from the Highland Park College in 1913 he taught in the public schools at Wapello and Milo.

On January 1, 1916 he was married to Marie Irene Smith. He taught in the Ida Grove School system until 1919 when he returned to Maxwell to farm southeast of town.

After the death of his wife in 1946, he moved to Des Moines to live with his daughter. Because of failing health he went to the Masonic Home in Bettendorf in 1950. In December of 1954, he returned to Des Moines and passed away May 21, 1955. He is survived by a daughter Jean Joor and a brother Dr. William C. Joor.

Casket bearers were Louis Strother, Henry Thornwall, C. B. Rittger, James Ward, Larry Dobson, and Stanley Bullard. Graveside services were by Herald Lodge No 455 A.F and A.M. Interment was in the Peoria Cemetery by the side of his wife.
