Funeral Services For Ben Cerka Held Monday In Zearing
Funeral services for Ben Cerka who died at his home in Zearing Friday, Feb. 4, were held Monday, Feb. 7 in the Zearing E.U.B. church with Rev. D. D. Eller and Rev. Walter Cerka in charge.
Music was supplied by Mrs. Walter Lund, organist and a quartet Glen McBride, Dale Johnston, Eldon Crain and Paul Lundy.
Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Lyle Steelman, Mrs. Max Lounsberry and Mrs. Lloyd Hoskins.
Pall bearers were Ray Ballinger, Fay Ballinger, Owen Cerka, Delos Cerka, Maynard Jackson and Arthur Turner.
Interment was in the Zearing cemetery Brouhard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Obituary
Ben August Cerka, youngest son of William and Fredrica Cerka, was born February 23, 1878, south of Zearing and passed away Feb. 4 at his home in Zearing at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 12 days.
He was married to Marguerite Buffington on March 14, 1906 at the Evangelical parsonage in Zearing. To this union were born three sons Orville of Waterloo, Elmer of Colo and Loren of Zearing. He spent his entire life in the Zearing community, with the exception of a few years in Huron, South Dakota. He worked for many years at the carpenter trade and for nineteen years was custodian of the Lincoln Township Consolidate School.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge for 45 years.
He is survived by his wife, Marguerite; three sons and their wives, nine grandchildren, numerous relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
He had always been a kind and loving husband and father, a loyal and co-operative citizen of the community and will long be remembered by all those who knew him.
