Charles Shearer Dies in Hospital In Des Moines Fri.
Charles Shearer, 415 I Ave., Nevada died this morning (Friday) at 7:05 a.m. at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Des Moines after being ill with leukemia for the past year and a half.
Shearer, 72 years old, was born in Collins, Ia. November 2, 1893, the son of Martha and Eli Shearer.
On May 22, 1922 he was married to Josephine Tracy at Collins. He was a member of the Christian Church, the VFW and World War I Barracks.
Shearer was employed by the State of Iowa and was resident of Nevada for the past 26 years.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine; two sons, Charles of Nevada and Robert of Ames; three brothers, James B. of California, Fred A. of Illinois, and Jerry King of Nevada; three sisters, Alta Gmelin of New York, Crete Holmes of Collins, and Ora Miller of Perry; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Maria Belle and Helen Jane, his parents, a sister Addie Carnahan, and brother, Tom King.
Funeral arrangements are not complete but burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Collins. Ryan Funeral Home is in charge.
