"MYSTERY IN DEATH OF FORMER MAXWELL MAN. - Harvey Pointer, Formerly of this Vicinity, Victim of Peculiar and Mysterious Accident While Hunting. Mystery surrounds the tragic death of Harvey Pinter, who was found dead near his home, northeast of Collins, last Friday afternoon with two rifle short wound under the chin, one of which pierced the brain. He had gone hunting and later the body was found by members of the family entangled in the wire fence. Coroner Mills and Sheriff Nebergall were notified and after the body was brought to the Cooper undertaking rooms held a consultation and investigation, deciding that no inquest was necessary as there seemed to be no evidence of indication of foul play, though the mystery of the second shot was not and probably never will be solved. Mr. Pointer lived for several years on the old Jesse Wood farm, north of Maxwell, leaving there about fifteen years ago, and his** since resided on the farm, northeast of Collins, which he purchased at that time. Harvey Lewis Pointer, son of Daniel and Emma Pointer, was born in Iowa Center, September 28, 1882, and died at his home, east of Collins, January 14, 1927, at the age of forty-four years, three months and sixteen days. Mr. Pointer was the youngest of a family of six children, his mother dying when he was but a small child. He was raised by an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John Belcher, Mrs. Belcher, of Collins, still surviving. November 21, 1906, Mr. Pointer was united in marriage to Pearl May Williams of Collins. To this union nine children were born one ___ (deceased?) Mildred, Ramah, Harold, Glen, Lester, Wayne, Donald and Forest, all at home. Besides his wife and children, he is survived by two sisters and one brother: Mrs. Nettie Nokes, of Nevada, Mrs. Annie Ritter, of California and George Pointer, of Canada; also a number or more distant relatives. He has been a member of Social Lodge, No. 463, I. O. O. F. of Maxwell, for the past seventeen years. Mr. Pointer is spoken of by those who knew him best as a loving husband, a kind father, a good neighbor and a faithful friend, and will be sadly missed not only in his home but by his neighbors and friends as well. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the U. B. church in Collins, Rev. Jones officiating. Social Lodge, of this place, assisted by the Collins lodge, having charge, after which the body was laid to rest in the Collins cemetery." **Editorial note - spelling used is from the original newspaper article.
