THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, January 10, 1901, page 4 column 4. "C. S. Pitts was struck by the Colorado Special at Ames, Sunday evening about 6:15 and instantly killed. Mr. Pitts was a carpenter by trade, an industrious man and well liked by those who knew him. He leaves a widow and a daughter, about 15 years of age, to mourn their loss."
