THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Thursday, November 13, 1913, page 1. "OBITUARY - Susan Eliza Oxley, oldest daughter of Mr. John C. and Mrs. Clara W. Oxley, was born in Story County, Iowa, on the home farm May 11, 1892, and died in the home of her birth and where she had lived her short earth life, November 7, 1913, having been privileged to beautify, bless and grace the home of her parents twenty-one years, five month and twenty-seven days. Susan was one of four children and the first to leave her father's home for her eternal home. Her sad and untimely death is like the falling of unripe fruit, not having completed life's fullest possibilities and privileges and as an unfinished life had brought great sadness and sorrow to her honorable father, devoted mother, her one loving and tender brother, Clyde M., and unspeakable grief to her two younger sisters, Goldie M. and Florence A. Her dear and aged grandmother, Mrs. Carr, for whom Susan was named, is indeed very lonely at the loss of her granddaughter. Her uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends can only measure their grief by the love they had for the dear one now lost to their homes, hearts and fellowship in life's plans and pleasures. Few members of any community have gone to their graves more universally loved and mourned than this dear young lady. The basic principles and characteristics of her nature were such as demanded the admiration of all who knew her by association and comradeship. She was endowed with some of nature's rarest gifts, her loving disposition, generous appreciation of others and modest opinion of herself, won for her a large place in the affections of her friends. The sterling qualities that go to make a useful life were hers, pleasant, courteous, eminently sociable, obliging, loyal and unyielding in her convictions of right, made her life above deceit and all manner of shams. Susan attended and was a member of the Sunday School at Peoria, also she was a member of a social club called Ney Watah. This unique organization numbered twelve young ladies and Susan is the second of this band to go to her eternal reward, her sister-in-law, Mrs. Blanche Young-Oxley, having preceded Susan only four months. May all her many friends take the passing of this beautiful young life so to heart, that they will live grander, nobler and more earnest lives, and may their remembrances of the dear departed friend be sweet memorials while life shall last. The funeral was conducted by Rev. C. S. Hanson, of Collins, in the M. P. church at Peoria, and was attended by a large number of relatives and friends. The floral designs were very beautifully arranged, many friends and the young ladies band being the contributors. The pall bearers were six cousins of the deceased, three Carr boys and three Vasey boys, Jno. Carr, Amos Carr, Charley Carr, Jesse Vasey, Raleigh Vasey and Chauncey Vasey. The members of the Ney Watah club were present and took part in the burial services, their names being Misses, Eva and May Gardner, Misses Mable and Eva Beach, Mrs. Grace Ferren, Miss Hazel Holmes, Miss Hattie Randol and Miss Myra Huntrods. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: C. G. Oxley, of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Sarah Hilton and daughter, Clara, Mr. and Mrs. John Backous and family, of Cambridge; Mr. and Mrs. Irving Spooner, Elmer, George and Earl Spooner, of Elkhart; Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Tomlinson and family, of Valeria; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Carr and Mr. and Mrs. N. McClanahan, of Mitchellville; Mr. and Mrs. George Chevill, of Rhodes; Mr. and Mrs. Bowers, Frank and Audrey Bowers, of Churdan; Mrs. Teresa Cook and sons, Roy and George, of Des Moines. CARD OF THANKS - We wish to render our sincere thanks to our many friends for all their kindness shown us in our dear daughter's illness and demise. Also we thank the young men who so beautifully sang for the funeral. We appreciate the courtesies of the M. P. church people in their loan of the church to us. John C. Oxley, Mrs. Clara W.
