THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, November 15, 1894, page 1. "OBITUARY - OXLEY - Samantha Jane Hilton was born in Nevada Tp. Story County, Iowa, Aug. 10, 1860. She was the daughter of Geo. F. and C. J. Hilton. Her life was largely spent in Story Co. She was married to Wm. R. Oxley in Oct. 1876. Her death occurred at their home three miles south east of Maxwell, Nov. 6, 1894. She had been in failing health for near four years, but her strong will power kept her up much longer than could have been expected. Her disease was consumption and bravely she battled with the foe. She was supported by a strong Christian faith and this made her cheerful and even submissive under her long affliction. She had been a member of the M. P. church at Peoria City for about twelve years, and was an earnest and active worker as long as health allowed her to attend the services. She taught in the Sunday School as long as her voice allowed her to speak above a whisper. The funeral took place on Nov. 7th from the Cumberland Presbyterian church in Maxwell, the services being conducted by her pastor, Rev. C. C. Rowley, of Collins, assisted by Rev. R. A. Ferguson, and the remains were laid to rest in the Maxwell cemetery. She leaves a husband, a son, a daughter, a mother, four brothers, a step father, an aged grandmother and other relatives, as well as many friends to mourn her loss. Truly a good woman has been taken from our midst. CARD OF THANKS - Wm. R. Oxley, his children and other relatives of Mrs. Samantha J. Oxley, hereby tender their profound thanks to the neighbors and friends for the unremitting attention given them in the long and severe affliction through which they passed in the sickness and death of Mrs. Oxley."
