THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Thursday February 6, 1913, page 1. "OBITUARY - Mary C. Lacy was born in Montgomery county, Tennessee, January 16, 1835, and died at her home in Maxwell, Iowa, January 31, 1913, aged seventy-eight years and thirteen days. When but a child the deceased moved with her parents to Illinois, where she grew to womanhood. September 4, 1864, she was united in marriage to Thomas Oxley of Rushville, Schuyler county, Illinois. One year after their marriage they moved to Polk county, Iowa, locating on a farm near Peoria City. Deceased was the mother of seven children, all of who are living and were present at the funeral. The children in order of their ages, are Mrs. Lizzie Swarms, John W., Mrs. Minnie Pring, Mrs. Ida Kulow, Mrs. Jennie Byers, James T., and Mrs. Alice Sperlin. Mrs. Oxley was converted and united with the Methodist Protestant church in Morgan county, Illinois in 1862. When they moved to Iowa, she, and her husband united with the church of that denomination at Peoria and were both loyal and faithful in the church until their death, her husband having preceded her to the better land a little over two years ago. Deceased lived on the farm near Peoria until 1892 when she and her husband moved to Maxwell, where they resided until called away by death. Sister Oxley was an exemplary Christian woman. She was respected by all who knew her and her circle of friends was large. Besides her children she leaves to mourn one sister, Mrs. Sophia Jackson, and one brother, John Lacy, both of Marshalltown, Iowa; also twenty-nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, besides many other relative and friends. Among the relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were the sister, one niece, Mrs. Della Thornton, of Sedalia, Mo.; a nephew, W. A. Lacy, of Gray, Iowa, and two grandsons, Messrs. Burl and Floyd Bell, of Newton and Altoona, respectively. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, February 2d, from the Presbyterian church, of Maxwell, by Rev. C. J. Nutt, assisted by Rev. Walton, of the Presbyterian church, and Rev. Goodrich of the M. E. church. A large crowd was present to extend sympathy for the living and their esteem for the dead. Deceased was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the beautiful Peoria cemetery."
