THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, January 21, 1937, page 1, column 5. "MARY KING-OXLEY - Mrs. Mary King-Oxley, resident of Maxwell and vicinity for many years in the early days, passed away at Des Moines Thursday night, Jan. 19th. She had been ill since Sunday with the prevailing epidemic, commonly called "flu." Mary, daughter of Joshua and Mary Jarville, was born in Lincolnshire, England, March 18, 1838. On May 12, 1861, she was married to Joseph King. To this union one son, Walter H. King, was born. In the year 1870, the family came to America, locating in Story county. The husband and father, Joseph King, died February 6, 1889. On April 9 1890, Mrs. King was married to John Oxley, who passed away January 15, 1899. Her son, Walter H. King, died Oct. 24, 1925. She is survived by one brother and one sister in England and two grandsons, Ross H. Kink, of Oakland, Calif. and Ariel W. King, of Des Moines; also one granddaughter, Mrs. C. M. Tomlinson, of Atlantic, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at the Maxwell Methodist Church, at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in charge of the pastor, Rev. T. J. Pettit. Interment will be in the Maxwell cemetery. Mrs. Oxley was well known here where she had resided for many years and her many friends in this locality will regret to learn of her death, even though she had reached the age far beyond three score years and ten allotted to man. Had she lived until March 18th she would have attained her 99th birthday."

"MARY KING-OXLEY LAID TO REST - The funeral of Mrs. Mary King-Oxley was held at the Maxwell Methodist church Saturday afternoon, in charge of the pastor, Rev. T. J. Pettit, assisted by Rev. C. R. Neal. The singing was by a male quartet composed of Martin H. Troup, H. E. Fackler, Dr. O. D. Houser and Rev. Pettit, with Mrs. W. G. Joor as pianist. They sang two songs, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Rock of Ages." The pallbearers were Wm. Gamble, C. B. French, Chas. Porter, Dr. W. G. Joor, Frank Boitnott and Vern Randol. Interment was in the Maxwell cemetery.
