THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, August 28, 1969, page1, column 2. “MRS. SOPHIE MARTENS – Funeral services for Mrs. Sophie Martens, 87, were held on Friday, Aug. 22, 1869, at 1:30 p.m., in the Cooper Funeral Home, with Rev. DeLoss Marken of Des Moines officiating. Mrs. Madeline Summitt furnished the organ music. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Vera Viers and Mrs. Eleanor Robertson. Casket bearers were Roscoe Anderson, Everett Anderson, Raymond Robertson, Alfred Jacobson, Theroy Wierson and Gerold Schauper. Interment was in the Maxwell Cemetery. Mrs. Martens was born Aug. 9, 1882 and passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1969, at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, where she had been a patient for several weeks. Mrs. Martens had made her home in Story City for many years and had lived in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. And Mrs. Art Fish since 1960. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Esther Fish and one granddaughter, Kay Martens.
