Funeral Rites Held For Lewis Stensland

KELLEY Funeral services were held Friday, January 11 for Lewis Stensland, with a prayer service at Riis funeral parlor at 1:30 and services at 2:00 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley with Reverend Bjorlie officiating using Psalm 9 9-10 as his text.

Music was furnished by Lester Moore who sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" as prayer service and "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Sunrise" at the Church service.

Interment was n the Hillside cemetery near Madrid. Pall bearers were neighbors Myron Thompson, Lewis Sheldahl, Gerhard Vespstad, Raymond Eveland, Glen Nerness and Calvin Ringgenberg.

Obituary

Lewis Stensland was born March 9, 1876 in Norway and passed away January 8, 1957 at the home of his son Clyde in Kelley, at the age of 80 years and ten months.

He was united in marriage of Ella Swanson in Boone, Nov. 25, 1903. To this union were born two sons, Carl H., a soil scientist in government work in Tokyo Japan and Clyde A. of Kelley, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two grandsons, two sisters Elizabeth Stensland and Anna Gunderson of Kenyon, Minn., and three brothers Carl of Madison, S. D., and Arent and George of Kenyon, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

He came to America in 1882 with his parents and settled near Kelley where he farmed until his health failed. He was confirmed and baptised in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Bethany Lutheran church here.

Mr. and Mrs. Stensland celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1952.

He would have been a 50 year member of the I.O.O.F. lodge this year.

Relatives and friends from a distance who attended were from Kenyon, Minn., Boone, Ames, and Madrid. The son Carl in Tokyo was unable to attend the services but had visited for six weeks with his father during his last illness.
