Funeral Services at Huxley for Lawrence Helland
Special to the Journal:
Huxley, Aug. 31--Funeral services for Lawrence N. Helland who died very suddenly Wednesday Aug. 23, were held at the Fjeldberg church at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon after a brief prayer service at the home.On account of the illness of his pastor, Dr. J. N. Andersen, the services were in charge of Rev. P. Buland of Story City. The church was filled to its utmost capacity and many had to remain outside when sorrowing relatives and friends were called together so unexpectedly to pay a last tribute of love and respect to one who had passed on. The many floral offerings were unusually beautiful and they were arranged by Mrs. Andrew Wenos and Mrs. Albert Johnson. A large number of gifts were sent to the missions in memory of the deceased.
Rev. Buland chose for his text a part of the 3rd verse in the 20th chapter of the first book of Samuel, "there is but a step between me and death."
Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson of Slater sang two duets "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and "My Faith Looks Up To Thee."
Pall bearers were his three brothers, Nellean, Sanford and Edward and three nephews, Seerley, Clark and LaVerne Helland. Interment was in the Fjedlberg cemetery.
