Colo Youth Is Killed In Crash Last Sun. Nite

Two Others are Injured in Accident West of State Center

One Story county youth was killed and another person was injured in an automobile accident which occurred five miles west of State Center last Sunday night. Vernon Jones, 21, of Colo was illed when the car he was driving was involved in a head-on collision with a truck just east of the Story county line and Miss Francis Settle, who resides northeast of Colo, sustained serious cuts and bruises.

Jones died almost instantly when his car struck the edge of the truck box, smashing his car. He suffered a fractured skull and other head injuries. He was driving east and the truck, driven by Henry Freyeremuth of Muscatine, was going west when the two collided.

The crach occured in front of the farm home of H. G. Adams home and John Woods, a visitor at the Adams home, was first to reach the scene of the accident after the crash.

Jones, who was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jones of Colo is survived by his parents, one sister, Mrs. John Colhoun of Maxwell, and two brothers Herbert and Everett both at home. It was reported that Jones was to have started work at a new position in Nevada Monday morning. Miss Settle was taken to a Marshalltown hospital.
