Miss Martha Kuhn.
Miss Martha Kuhn, formerly of Richland township in this county, died at Rich Hill, Mo. December 3, 1903, aged 75 years, 1 month and 2 days. The deceased was the eldest of nine children and was born in Frederick county, Maryland November 1, 1828. She removed with her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Kuhn, and family to Marion county, Indiana, in 1849, and from there came with her mother in 1882 to Story county, where others of the family were already located. They built a little home in the neighborhood of the other Kuhns and the Apples near Johnson's Grove and resided there until the death of the mother in 1898 at the age of 91. After that Miss Kuhn removed to Rich Hill, Mo., and made her home with her brother Alfred. Besides the last named, Miss Kuhn's immediate relatives surviving are her brother George N. Kuhn and her sister, Mrs. John H. Apple, both of Nevada. She was a most estimable woman, and was a faithful church member from her youth, her membership being alternately in the Lutheran and Methodist churches, as she found the one or the other established near her home. Her death was the result of cancer of the breast from which she was a great sufferer.
