Held Funeral Rites for Accident Victim at Huxley

Huxley, May 2--Funeral services for Roy Rullestad were held at the Palestine church at two o'clock Thursday afternoon after a brief service for the family at the home. The church was filled with sorrowing relatives and friends who were called together so unexpectedly, when death claimed the young man within a few hours after an automobile accident on the highway. There were many beautiful floral offerings and they were arranged by Mrs. John Dobbe, Mrs. Newtie Wee and Mrs. Wilton Dobbe. Six cousins served at pall bearers, Cecil Rullestad, Obert Overland, Joe Rullestad, Stanley Freeland, Gurney Rullestad and Grant Rullestad. Following the services at the church, the remains were interred in the Lincoln cemetery north of Huxley. Special music was furnished by Mrs. H. E. Jacobson and Miss Gladys Rullestad who sang as a duet a Norwegian hymn, "O Tenk Naar Engang Samles Skal" and a mixed quartet composed of Walter Christopher Burton Tesdall, Mrs. H. E. Jacobson and Gladys Rullestad sang, "Why Not Now." Miss Leona Brendeland played the organ accompaniment. Rev. Jacobson chose for his text part of the 12th verse in the fourth chapter of the prophet Amos, "Prepare to Meet Thy God." Rev. Buland of Story City, a friend of the family, spoke briefly in the Norwegian language when he endeavored to find words to comfort the bereaved mother, who within a few short years has lost two sons in such a tragic death. The following obituary was read: Austin Roy Rullestad, son of Esten and Rachael Rullestad was born one mile west of Huxley, Jan. 26, 1910. He passed away at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines April 26, 1942 at the age of 32 years and three months. He was the youngest of seven brothers. One died in infancy while the family lived in Norway, one brother died in 1905. His father passed away Sept. 4, 1927 and his brother, Gunder died Feb. 24, 1935. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Rachael Rullestad, three brothers, Gordon Rullestad of Cambridge, Jens and Burton at home. He also leaves three nephews. He was baptized by Rev. Guttebo and confirmed by Rev. Buland. After the death of his brother Gunder, he has been in charge of the farm work at home. Among those from a distance who were here to attend the funeral services were Mrs. Lyle Abrahamson and sons of West Bend; Mr. and Mrs. Siviert Rullestad, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Stangeland, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Rullestad, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Rullestad of Jewell, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Rullestad, Mrs. Jamer Rullestad, Mrs. Richard McNeal, Mrs. Forest Vogt, Mr. and Mrs. Gunder Fjare, Mrs. Ole Cleveland, Mr. and Mrs. Torres Egemo, Everett Ritland and daughter, Mrs. Elma Overland and Gladys, all from Ames, Mrs. Anfin Hanson, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Egemo, Rev. and Mrs. Peter Buland of Story City, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ginn, Mr. and Mrs. Obert Weeks, Mrs. R. Reinertson, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Reinertson and Miss Thelma Freeland of Des Moines; Lawarence Skeer of Boone, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Reinertson of Madrid; Miss Inga Overland of Waterloo; Joe Rullestad from Knoxville and many from neighboring towns.
