Funeral Services At Maxwell for Mrs. May Harris

Special to the Journal:
Maxwell, June 26--The funeral of Mrs. Willis Harris, 39, was held at the Church of Christ in Maxwell Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock with her pastor, Rev. H. C. Darling in charge. The church was filled to capacity with sympathizing relatives, neighbors and friends. The many floral expressions of love and sympathy were arranged and carried by Mrs. E. L. Wood and Mrs. J. J. Viers, with Mrs. Arthur Porter at the piano, a quartette composed of Mrs. Niles Cook, Mrs. H. C. Darling, Arnold Scott and Orlando D. Holtby sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "Under His Wings." Mrs. Cook sang "The City Four-Square." Pallbearers were E. L. Wood, George Cook, Dale Scott, Ernie Wilkening, Capt. Schiver and Dorus Myers. Interment was in the Maxwell cemetery.

Rev. Darling read the following obituary:

Edith May Bell was born June 22, 1903, in Appanoose county, Iowa, near the town of Cincinnati and passed to her eternal reward June 20, 1942, at the age of 39 years, lacking two days.

She lived in the community of her birth until her marriage to Willis H. Harris, near Cincinnati, Iowa. Some time after their marriage they moved to Osceola, later moving to the Maxwell community where they resided until the present time.

Mrs. Harris better known to her friends as May, in leaving this land of the dying for the land of the living, leaves a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Bell, two sisters, Mrs. Luella Phillips of Newton, Kansas, and Mrs. Leona Gibson of Wichita, Kansas.

The husband, Willis H. Harris, two sons, Duane and Yvon, one daughter, Cleota, one brother, Samuel Ellis, preceded her in death.

May chose Jesus as her eternal friend and savior early in life. She affiliated herself with the Baptist church. Since coming to Maxwell she has been a faithful and worthy member of the Church of Christ. She believed in Him and her faith found its true expression in the life that she lived. To her, physical death can only mean a perfect spiritual life.
