Funeral Services Held at Huxley For Mrs. S. K. Tweedt
Special to the Journal.
Huxley, June 16--Funeral services for Mrs. S. K. Twedt, who passed away on Thursday morning, were held at the Palestine church at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon following a prayer service at the home at 1:30.Special music was furnished by Walter Christopher who sang as a solo, a Norwegian hymn and Mrs. Ray Elliott and Miss Gladys Rullestad sang a duet, "I Shall Know Him." Miss Leona Brendeland played the organ accompaniment.
Rev. Jacobson chose for his text, the 23rd Psalm, where he brought forth God's wonderful love to all, even in the afflicted and suffering of this temporal life. Carl Shaw of Estherville spoke briefly of the thoughts in connection with a favorite hymn.
There were many gifts to the missions in memory of the departed and most of these gifts were specified for the work in the orphans' homes, in which she was particularly interested.
Pall bearers were the four sons and two son-in-laws, Roy Tweedt of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, John Tweedt of Dolliver, Louis Valen of Humboldt, Edward Tweedt of Kelley and Burney Tweedt of Huxley. The remains were interred in the Palestine cemetery.
"Anna Helena Tweedt was born April 4, 1872, at Havardsholm, Sunderland, Norway. Her parents were Nels and Martha Havardsholm.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of Norway. In the year 1902, she came to Estherville, Ia. For some year she was employed at the orphan's homes in Beloit, Ia, and Wittenberg, Wis.
On March 14, 1907, she was married to S. K. Tweedt. They lived on the farm one-half mile west of the Palestine church until 1911, when they retired from farming and moved to Huxley.
Last winter she became ill and was taken to the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines where it was found she suffered from cancer. She was cared for in her own home until her passing at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 7 days.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her aged husband, six step children, Edward Tweedt of Kelley, Burney Tweedt of Huxley, John Tweedt of Dolliver, Iowa, Mrs. Martha Lee of Humboldt, Mrs. Isabelle Valen of Estherville and Roy Tweedt of Mt. Sterling, Ill. Also 35 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren besides 2 brothers in Oslo, Norway, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Tweedt has lived among us as a Christian, quiet and unassuming in her ways. She was an example to us all of genuine Christian hospitality, a faithful wife and mother. She was loved by her step-children as their own mother and has surely cared for them as her own.
Among the relatives from a distance who were here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Tweedt and Billy from Mt. Sterling, Illinois; Everett Tweedt of Brownwood, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Valen and family; Mr. and Mrs. Anfin Shaw, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Shaw, Mrs. Torkel Olson, all of Estherville, John Tweedt and family of Dolliver,, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Lee and family, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Lee and family, of Humboldt, Mrs. Sam Berg and Mrs. L. S. Kalvik of Jewell.
