Funeral Services Held at Brethren Church, Near Maxwell

Maxwell, July 3--Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Turner, 83, were held from the Church of the Brethren, south of Maxwell, June 30, at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by her pastor, J. D. Brower, with burial in the Brethren cemetery nearby. The singing was by Mrs. Ray Gooden and Jimmie Beal, with Mrs. H. C. Larsen, at piano.

Pallbearers were Will Enfield, Sam Meyers, Frank Mischler, H. K. Devilbiss, Will Troup and Martin H. Troup.

The following obituary was read by the minister during the service:

"Mary Catharine Pike, eldest daughter of Frank and Sarah Pike, was born near Polo, Ogle county, Illinois, February 18, 1859, and departed this life at the home of her daughter Mrs. Maude Link, near Maxwell, Ia., June 28, 1942, at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 10 days.

When a young girl she came with her parents to Iowa and settled on a farm south of Maxwell. She was united in marriage to Lyman Turner, September 27, 1881. To this union was born six children, Mrs. Bertha Shepherd of Des Moines; Charles of Colo, Leo of Waterloo and Mrs. Maude Link, of near Maxwell, with whom he had made her home for the past seventeen years. Two sons Francis and Emery preceded her in death, as did her husband. Besides these she leaves one bother, Bert Pike of Rhodes, one sister, Luly Minear of Ashland, Oregon while another sister, Mrs. Emma Funk, preceded her in death by four months. She also leaves fifteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. After the death of her husband, she brought her small children to Maxwell, and has made her home in this community ever since.

"When a young girl, she accepted Christ as her Savior, and united with the Church of the Brethren south of Maxwell, and remained a faithful member to the end. For some time it has been hard for her to attend church because of her hearing and physical disability."
