Funeral Services Held Here Sunday for Robert Sarsfield

Funeral rites for Robert C. Sarsfield, 88, who died Thursday at his home on 1228 Tenth street, were held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill in charge, assisted by Rev. Reynolds C. Murdock of the First Methodist church.

Two songs, "Going Down the Valley" and "The Old Rugged Cross" were sung by Howard Hilburn.

Following the service at the home the funeral party accompanied the body to the Colo cemetery, where burial was by the side of the wife Mrs. Susan Sarsfield, who passed away two years ago last July.

Casket bearers were nephews Wilbur Sarsfield, John Sarsfield, John Brouhard, Earl Brouhard, Lester Dunahoo and Willard Dunahoo, while the flowers were cared for by Mrs. E. O. Dillin and Mrs. Effie Johnson.

The following obituary was read during the service here:

"Robert C. Sarsfield, 88, retired farmer, and a resident of Story county for over sixty years passed away at his home here, 1228 Tenth street at 6:30 Thursday morning.

"A son of Andrew and Mary Corvin Sarsfield, Mr. Sarsfield was born October 9, 1854 in New York City.

"When three years of age his parents located at Garden Prairie, Ill. Later moving to Montecello, Iowa where he grew to manhood.

"In 1879, Robert came to Colo, Iowa, where he was married on May 11 to Susan Dunahoo. They resided in Colo for the following three years then moved to the farm south of there. They lived on this farm until the spring of 1915 when they moved to Nevada which has been their home since.

"Mr. Sarsfield was preceded in death by his wife, Susan in 1942 and two sons LeRoy who died in infancy and Orville who passed away in 1935.

"Surviving are one son, Charles of Chicago and a daughter Blanche Boyd of south of Nevada. There are also a brother G. W. Sarsfield of Atlantic, ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Among the relatives here for the funeral services from a distance were the son Charles Sarsfield, wife and son of Robert of Chicago and a granddaughter, Mrs. J. C. Holmes and husband of Rock Island. Another granddaughter, Mrs. Doris Henryson of Litchfield, Conn., was unable to come because of the lack of able to secure rail reservations.
