Funeral Services Monday Afternoon for Late Dorr Allen

Funeral rites for Dorr Allen, 58, of 414 E avenue, who passed away at Iowa Sanitarium Saturday just before noon, were held Monday afternoon at the First Methodist church in Nevada, with Rev. Reynolds C. Murdock in charge.

The church was well filled with relatives, neighbors and friends of the man who had been an active figure in Nevada business life for over forty years and had a wide acquaintance over the county.

There was no music and the service consisted simply of the prayer and scripture, as well as the brief sermon and reading of the obituary. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

The floral offerings were many and beautiful and were cared for by the ladies of the Ringheim store, while the pallbearers were Emmett S. Armstrong, Jay K. Banks, J. G. Berka, L. O. Borgen, Dr. N. S. Nutty and Dr. Donald Soper.

The brief life sketch of the deceased, prepared and read by the minister, was as follows:

Ira Dorr Allen

Ira Dorr Allen, second son of Ira J. and Jennie Allen was born in Nevada October 5, 1883. Born of pioneer residents of this city, he spent his entire life in Nevada.

When he was about sixteen years of age, and while still in high school, he began working in the Ringheim stores. His first assignment placed him as a clerk in the dry goods department. A few years later he was transferred to the clothing department. After the death of the late A. M. Ringheim, he shared in the management of the stores. For forty-two years Mr. Allen served the Ringheim Stores and through that connection made a wide circle of friends and acquaintances throughout the county.

"On November 5, 1908, he was united in marriage to Miss May Wall. To this union two son were born--John and William, both of Nevada.

"During the last year Mr. Allen had reason to suspect that some physical disorders needed correction. Consequently he went to the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, Minn., last May. Upon his return he was able to resume his work at the store. About a month ago he again went to Rochester but returned without receiving much encouragement. Last Monday, his condition became more serious and he was taken to the Iowa Sanitarium where he departed this life shortly before noon last Saturday.

"Besides his widow and two sons, he leaves one grandson, Carl Allen of Nevada; four sisters, Mrs. A. W. R. Boller of Nevada and Mrs. Belle Frazier, Mrs. L. R. Doggett, and Mrs. Blanche Gilchrist, all of Ames, Iowa; and the many business associates and friends.

Among the relatives from out-of-town in attendance at the funeral were Mrs. Belle Frazier of Ames, her sons, Tom Frazier and wife of Ames, and Dr. Galen Frazier and wife of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. Lou Doggat of Ames; Mrs. James Gilchrist and three daughters, Mary, Jean and Virginia and her son Bob Gilchrist and wife of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Allen Boller of Atlantic and Lorella Boller-Maurer of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Carpenter of Chicago and Mr. and Mrs. Wyland Wall of Cedar Rapids.
