Minerva Ellen Hefner was born July 29, 1857, near Lexington, Ill. She passed away at a nursing home in Des Moines, Iowa, on December 7, 1945, at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 8 days.
She married Wm. Wroe Ellis, also of Lexington, Illinois, in 1876. They were companions for 54 years until the death of Mr. Ellis fifteen years ago.
They were the parents of ten children, two died in infancy. Those living are Miss Leo Ellis and Mrs. Rose Sherk, of Chicago, Illinois, Walter J. Ellis, of Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Sadie James, of Chariton, Iowa, Mrs. Carrie Ferguson and Mrs. Millie Henry, of Berkeley, California, Mrs. Margaret Chalfant, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Earl S. Ellis, of Port Orford, Oregon, all of whom visited their mother recently. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren and many friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Ellis moved their family to Iowa in 1892 and have most of their lives in this state since that time. They purchased a farm near Russell in 1918, and it was here that Mr. Ellis passed away in 1930.
Mrs. Ellis was a lifelong member of the Methodist church, and a devoted wife and mother.
