Military Funeral For Ben Vogt Held Wednesday Afternoon

Military funeral service for Ben Vogt, 55, were held from the Ryan Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. C. E. Lookingbill and Story County V.F.W. Post officiating. The music was furnished by Mrs. Betty Case, soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Norman Dodson at the organ.

The beautiful floral pieces testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held by this community.

The pall bearers were Glen White, Joe Sesker, Clarence Stark, Leslie McBride, Seyard Nass and Roy Rosenberg. The V.F.W. had services both at the funeral home and also at the grave side.

The military service was in charge of Harry Jens of the burial ritual team of the V.F.W. Post 738 and Ralph Lyman, commander of Des Moines.

The filing squad consisted of Don Campbell, Lee Alexander, Jack and Bud Bates, and Rex Johnson. The color guard, Lowell Springer, Allen Bullock. Color bearers, Holly Eide and Alex Quinsland. Adolph Kleinschmidt had charge of the firing squad and color guard, with Clark Stookey assisting. The Buglers were Gloria Rasmussen and Billy Stone.

The following obituary was read by Rev. Lookingbill:

"Ben vogt, son of Ben and Ellen Vogt, was born in El Paso, Woodford County, Illinois, Oct. 11th, 1890, and passed away at 11:30 p. m. January 20th at the U. S. Veterans Hospital, Des Moines, at the age of 55 years, 3 months and 11 days. He had been in poor health for some time but only went to the hospital a few days before his death.

He came with his parents to Iowa and made his home in Story county where he had a host of friends. In later years he has made his home with his brother, Charlie and family in Nevada and was employed by Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa, where he was working at the time of his death.

His father, mother and one sister preceeded him in death . He leaves to mourn his death five brother and two sisters. The brothers are George, Charlie, Clarence and Bert of Nevada and James of Ames. The sisters are Martha, Mrs. Wellard Shearer of Shipley community and Della, now Mrs. Charley Womack of Elma, Iowa. He also leaves a number of nephews and nieces and a host of friends.

He served with Co. L, 161st Infantry World War I.

Johnson of Story City; Mr. and Mrs. Claude Vogt of Cambridge; Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Vogt of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Willard Shearer and family of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Harris C. Paulson of Des Moines; Mrs. Della Wormack and Mr. and Mrs. John P. Schroeder and son of Elma; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Slifka and son of Cresco; Mr. and Mrs. Francis E. Fogerty of Charles City; Mr. and Mrs. Albert L. Wormack of Melbourne; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hill of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sargen of Pilot Mound; Mr. Lester Williams of Cambridge, and a host of friends from out of town.
