Last Rites for Mrs. M. H. Skinner Sunday Afternoon

Funeral services for Mrs. M. H. Skinner, 87, who passed away Friday morning at the home of her grandson, Paul Hiner, were held at the Huffman funeral home in Scranton, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. O. E. Cooley of the Nevada Methodist church officiating at the last rites.

Dr. J. K. Johnson, Jr., of Jefferson sang "Abide With Me" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" accompanied at the piano by Lucille Ruton of Scranton.

Burial was in the Scranton cemetery.

Mrs. Skinner had been a resident of Nevada for the past eight months. Born in Wisconsin in 1895 she came across Iowa and Nebraska in a covered wagon and had all the experiences of the pioneer. She returned to Iowa from Nebraska and had been a resident of this state for past nearly 40 years.

The following obituary was read by Rev. Cooley at the funeral service:

"Mernilvia Harriet Skinner, daughter of John and Sephronia Cannon, was born at Farmington, Wis., Jan 16, 1859. Departed this life at Nevada, Iowa, at the home of her grandson, Paul Hiner, with whom she made her home. Her age was 86 years, 11 months, 25 days.

On July 16, 1878, she was united in marriage to Newell A. Skinner. To this union was born a daughter, Jessie, now deceased, who preceded her mother in death on year ago Jan 9, 1945. Her husband passed away May 11, 1925, at Scranton, Iowa. Since that time she had made her home at Jefferson, Iowa, with her daughter, Jessie Morgan and for the past eight months she had lived with Paul Hiner at Nevada.

She had been in failing health for sometime and she recently had an attack of flu from which she never fully recovered. This in turn caused a heart attack and other complications which resulted in her death.

She leaves to mourn her passing five grandchildren, Marjorie E. Nelson of Des Moines, Marian F. Bassett of Chicago, Jane Kirby of Port Clinton, Ohio, Paul L. Hiner of Nevada and LeRoy J. Morgan now in Japan. Thirteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren, Jimmie and Jean Smith of Des Moines and Donna K. and Linda Lou Fox of Chicago. Also two nieces, Mrs. E. C. Hagelin of Duluth, Minn., and Mrs. D. J. Hyde of Minneapolis, Minn.
