Last Rites for Henry Heiner Held Tuesday Afternoon
Funeral services for Henry Heiner, 89, long time prominent resident of Maxwell, who passed away Saturday morning, April 6, in a hospital at Prairie du Chien, Wis., were held Tuesday afternoon at the Maxwell Methodist church with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill preaching the sermon. The Rev. C. R. Fitz also officiated at the services.
The committal in the Maxwell cemetery was in charge of the Maxwell Masonic lodge of which he had been a member for over 50 years.
The following obituary was read at the funeral service:
Henry Heiner, youngest son of William and Katherine Schreimer Heiner, was born February 21, 1857, in Little Grant township, Grant county, Wisconsin, where he resided until the death of his parents in 1870.
From then on he made his home with his half-brother, John Schreimer in Lancaster, Wis., where he received his education and his training in the butchering business which he followed for many years.
He was united in marriage to Lucy Kolb at Bloomington, Wisconsin, on March 28, 1878. They made their home at Bloomington for five years. In 1883 they moved to Groton, South Dakota, where they resided for two years, and then returned to Bloomington where they lived until 1889, when they moved to Maxwell, Iowa.
He was in a grocery store and meat market for many years at Maxwell and also engaged in buying and selling of livestock. Mr. Heiner held different offices of trust and was always a sincere public servant, having served several terms as mayor of Maxwell. For over 50 years he was an active and revered member of the Masonic Lodge.
Mrs. Heiner passed away in August, 1930 After her death, Mr. Heiner continued to live in the home at Maxwell until August, 1941, when he moved to Bagley, Wisconsin, to live in the home of his nephew, William Schreimer.
Besides those mentioned he was preceded in death by his two sons, Lloyd and Harry; one brother, William, and three half-brothers, John, Jacob and David Schreimer and two sisters, Katherine and Elizabeth.
