Funeral Services for W. W. Westcott Held at Collins

Collins, April 6 -- Funeral services for the late Wesley W. Westcott, 86, who died at the home of his son, H. C. Westcott, Thursday evening, March 28, after a lingering illness were held from the Collins Church of Christ at 2:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon, March 31, 1946, with the Rev. Chas. Neel of Newton, a former pastor, in charge of the services. The floral offerings were very lovely and they were arranged at the church and grave by Mrs. Dan Wear and Mrs. Ora Hanson.

A quartet composed of Mrs. Lloyd Cummings, Mrs. Ray Sughart, Supt. R. A Long and Tom H. Huntrods with Mrs. C. R. Stone at the piano sang three songs, "The Old Rugged Cross," "In the Garden, " and "'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus." The pall bearers were R. G. Patton, Lloyd Cummings, T. H. Carver, George Thompson, D. L. Halterman and B. L. Keagle. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery at Collins by the side of his wife.

A short obituary, which was in part as follows, was read at the services.

Wesley W. Westcott, son of Sarah and Cyrus Westcott, was born in New York state, March 18, 1960, and came to Iowa with his parents when about eleven years of age.

On Sept. 4, 1883, he was united in marriage with Sarah R. Ozmun, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Ozmun, and to this union six children were born, five of whom survive, one daughter dying in infancy. Over a period of sixteen years they made their home in Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska, returning to Iowa in 1899. A greater part of his life since then was spent in Collins. The wife died in May, 1934, and since that time the deceased made his home with his son, Harve C. Westcott. He had been in poor health for a number of years but remained active until in October of the past year. Most of the time from then until his death was spent confined to his bed.

The surviving children are Samuel A. Westcott of Council Bluffs, Bertha A. Frisbee, Harve C. Westcott, Carl A. Westcott and Ada S. Oswalt all of Collins. there are also ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Mr. Westcott will be greatly missed in the community because of his upright life and his kindness to everyone.
