Last Rites for E. L. Sylvester Sunday Afternoon

Funeral services for the late E. L. Sylvester, 76, longtime resident of Nevada who had been in the monument business her for many years, who passed away Friday June 14, were held from the Ryan Funeral Home, Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock with the Rev James D. Ransom of Central Presbyterian church in charge of the services.

Mrs. F. W. Cowgill was at the organ playing appropriate hymns.

The floral offerings were many and beautiful.

Casket bearers were R. A. Davis, F. C. Tarman, Karl B. Cessna, P. K. Mathison, Charles Schultz and Henry Albery. Committal was in the Nevada cemetery by the side of the wife who passed away Oct. 25, 1937.

Among those here from out of town for the last rites were the grandson Clifford Lobaugh and his wife of Blairsburg.

The following brief life story of the deceased was read by Rev. Ransom at the funeral service:

Obituary

"Edward Levy Sylvester, son of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Sylvester, one of a family of seven children, was born in Albia, Iowa, on April 14, 1870. He was united in marriage with Martha Ann Grooms on October 14, 1894, at the family home in Fredricksburg, Iowa. To this union were born three children: Geneva, now Mrs. Marlie Lobaugh; Lillian, now Mrs. Melvin Wells; and one son, Willis, all of Nevada.

"The Sylvester home was established in Albia, Iowa, where the family lived for some time, but for the past forty years Nevada has been their home. Mr. Sylvester had bee engaged in the monument business here since 1910; since 1929 his son had been associated with him.

"Mrs. Sylvester passed away October 25, 1937 at the age of 62 years. Mr. Sylvester has been in failing health for some time, and passed away Friday, June 14, 1946 at the age of 76 years. He was a member of Central Presbyterian church.

"He leaves to mourn his passing three children, seven grandchildren, Patricia Lou Sylvester VanSickle, Max Sylvester, Clifford, Donald and Phillip Lobaugh, Bruce and Garry Wells, and three great grandchildren. Mary Sue VanSickle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe VanSickle, Garry Lobaugh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Lobaugh of Blairsburg, Iowa and Larry Lobaugh son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lobaugh.

Mr. Sylvester is also survived by one brother, Mark Sylvester of Albuquerque, N. M., two sisters, Mrs. Fred Everett of Florida and Mrs. Rev. Hindman of Colorado. His twin brother, Will, preceded him in death in 1939.

"He will be missed by the many friends and business associates who have known him and worked with him these many years."
