Last Rites for Oliver John Lacey Held in Zearing

Zearing, July 29 -- Funeral services for O. J. Lacey were held in the Evangelical church in Zearing on July 16, 1946, in charge of Rev. C. L. Fuller, with burial in the Zearing cemetery. A male quartet, Glenn McBride, Dale Johnston, Eldon Crain and Bill Adams, sang the hymns, with Joyce Adams at the piano.

The flower bearers were Mrs. Guy Clatterbuck, Mrs. Noah Knott, Mrs. Lela Adams. The casket bearers were Guy Clatterbuck, Chelsey Beach, Robert Comfort, Sam Oakes, Art Rash, Marion Perry.

Oliver John Lacey was born on May 31, 1878 in Marshall county, Iowa, and passed away at the St. Thomas Mercy hospital in Marshalltown on July 13, 1946, at the age of 68 years, after a few weeks illness. Nearly all his life was spent in the Illinois Grove neighborhood, where he attended school as a boy and later farmed, retiring to Zearing two years ago.

He married ida B. Barber on Feb. 27, 1896. She survives him, also their five children and eight grandchildren. The children ware Mrs. Wallace Cox of Van Nuys, Calif., Delos Lacey of Illinois Grove, Lester J. Lacey of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Alfred Thornes of Marshalltown and Mrs. Claire Reed of Zearing. All were present at the services. One sister, Mrs. Clarence Cary of Detroit, Mich., and one brother, Ed Lacey of Omaha, Neb., survive and were with him here. His parents and three sisters preceded him in death.
