THE MITCHELLVILE INDEX, Mitchellville, Iowa, Thursday June 30, 1955, page 1, "Service For Chas. Byers Today - Services for Charles Byers, 59, will be held this afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Mitchellville Congregational church, with interment in the Mitchellville cemetery. Mr. Byers, a long-time resident of Mitchellville, died Tuesday morning at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines, following a lingering illness. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons."
THE MITCHELLVILLE INDEX, Mitchellville, Iowa, Thursday July 7, 1955, page 1, "Last Rites Held For Chas. Byers - Last rites for Charles Byers were held at the Congregational church at 2:00 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Wm. Travis was in charge of the service. Mr. Byers died Tuesday, June 28, 1955, at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines after an illness of about a year. He was born at Carbon and had lived most of his life in Polk county. A devout family man, he was a member of the Congregational church and Oldfield Post of the American Legion, both in Mitchellville. Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Carroll McCleary and Mrs. John Breen, both of Des Moines; two sons, Robert and Maurice, both of Mitchellville; two sisters; six brothers, and five grandchildren. Interment was made in the Mitchellville cemetery. - CARD OF THANKS - We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to neighbors, friends and relatives for the many acts of kindness, floral offerings and words of sympathy extended to us at the time of bereavement. A special thanks to Oldfield post of the American Legion, the Legion Auxiliary and ladies of the Congregational church. Your kindness and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten. "Charles Byers Rites Thursday - Services for Charles Byers, 59, of Mitchellville, who died of cancer Tuesday at Veterans Hospital here, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Congregational Church in Mitchellville, with burial in the cemetery there. Born in Carbon, he had lived in Polk County most of his life. He was a member of the Congregational Church and Oldfield Post American Legion, both in Mitchellville. He had been employed by Economy Forms Corp. Surviving are his widow, Jennie; two daughters, Mrs. Carroll McCleary and Mrs. John Breen, both of Des Moines; two sons, Robert and Morris, both at Mitchellville; two sisters; six brothers, and five grandchildren."
