THE DES MOINES REGISTER, April 25, 2000, page 7. Obituary: "Dona M. Byers, 87, of Mitchellville died of pneumonia Sunday at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Santiago United Methodist Church in Santiago, of which she was a member. Burial will be at Franklin Township Cemetery there. Mrs. Byers was born in Missouri and had lived in Mitchellville for the past 60 years. She was a homemaker and was known for her cooking skills, gardening and crocheting. She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Murrow of Colfax and Marjorie Messinger of Des Moines; a son, John of Ohio; a sister, Lillie Smith of Mitchellville; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Mitchellville Funeral Home in Mitchellville. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Jasper County."
