Services For Mrs. Guy C. Hoel Held Saturday
One of the largest funerals ever held at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Nevada, was the service held on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock for Mrs. Guy Hoel, 40, beloved wife and mother, who passed away Thursday at 10:15 at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames following an illness which dated since last December.
The last rites were in charge of Rev. Vern F. Cross, pastor, with Rev. N. A. Steffen former pastor and Father Ryan, assistant pastor, of Ames, in the sanctuary.
The requiem mass was sung by St. Patrick's choir with Mrs. Roger Hopkins of Colo and Mrs. Ernie Thoreson of McCallsburg, assisting.
The pallbearers were Floyd Baldus, M. R. McCoy, Joe Wheelock, Pat Carmody, Wm. Heil and John Orr.
Committal was in the Nevada Catholic cemetery.
The Rosary Service
On Friday evening a large number of relatives and friends assembled at the Hoel home, 1329 Seventh for the rosary prayer service conducted by Father Cross. The Hoel home, where the body was lying in state, was banked with beautiful flowers testifying to the love and esteem in which the deceased was held. A large number of spiritual bouquets were also given in her memory.
The flowers in the home were arranged by Mrs. Floyd Baldus, Mrs. John Peterson, Miss Helen Foley and Mrs. Elizabeth Wells.
Obituary
Mrs. Guy Hoel was born Mary Kutter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kutter in Colo, February 13, 1908 and passed away July 22, 1948 at the age of 40 years, five months and 11 days. Death followed an illness of seven months which she bore with patience and resignation. She was in Mary Greeley hospital in Ames at the time of her death and had also made trips to the Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minn.
Mary attended and graduated from the Colo high school and later attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She spent 16 successful years teaching in the rural schools of Story county. She was elected president of the Rural Teachers' Association of Story county and also served for one year as president of the rural section of the Iowa State Educational Association.
"Mrs. Hoel was an excellent teacher" state Co. Supt. E. P. Schindler speaking of her. She had the highest respect of her pupils and of her fellow teachers. She had special ability in aiding the slow pupil who found it hard to learn and was also very successful with the more brilliant students. A number of her pupils were on the Honor Ross at various Eighth Grade graduation."
She was married to Guy C. Hoel of Nevada at Colo, July 1, 1935, thirteen years ago, and since that time her home had been in Nevada.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her devoted husband, her little daughter Mary Kathryn who will be five years of age in November, her father, Fred Kutter of Marshalltown, four sisters, Mrs. George Nowland of Colo, Mrs. Leighton Nolta of State Center, Mrs. Harry Knebel of Savage, Minn., and Mrs. Ross Sparrow of Zearing, and two brothers, Fred, of Minneapolis and Adam of Marshalltown, as well as a host of friends. Her mother preceded her in death, passing away in 1944.

Wade and Carlene, all of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Sauer and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Webber, all of Prior Lake, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Snyder and family and Wiemer Webber of Freeprot, Illinois; Adam Kutter; Ed Kutter; Joe Huski; Mrs. Charles smith; Miss Mildred Kutter all of Peru, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Rex Bloom and Annett of Albion; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Que of Des Moines, and many other relatives and friends from Colo, State Center, Rhodes, Marshalltown, Zearing, St. Anthony, Ames, Collins, Cambridge and Elkhart.
