Last Rites For S. M. McHose Held Monday

Last rites were held at the Ryan Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 1:30 for one of Nevada's most distinguished citizens, Samuel Milton McHose who passed away at his home in Nevada Thursday night at the age of 92 years.

The bier was surrounded by beautiful floral pieces which testified to the high regard in which Mr. McHose was held in the community in which he had spent so many years.

Rev. C. E. Lookingbill paid high tribute to the deceased and brought comforting spiritual comfort to those bereaved.

Mrs. Norman C. Dobson was at the organ, playing the following hymns by request. "Shepherd Show Me How to Go" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus".

The casket bearers were Bill Ball, Jerry King, R. Fred Nelson, Jim Olinger, Orson Shaffer and Carl Stone. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

The Nevada National Bank of which Mr. McHose had been president for 12 years and had been identified with for many years was closed during the funeral hour in tribute to his memory.

Obituary

Samuel Milton McHose was born August 17, 1856, at Geneseo, Illinois and passed away January 27, 1949 at his home at 1128 4th street, Nevada, Iowa.

He was the son of Samuel and Mary Dillin McHose, and a member of a family of eight boys and three girls, all but two of whom have preceded him in death.

Mr. McHose first came to Nevada as a youth, making brick in a yard at the south edge of town in the spring and summer and attending high school here in the winter. Shortly thereafter his location as clay worker was at St. Anthony, Iowa, where in 1887 he met and married Sarah Sharon who survives him. He also leaves two children, Ray of this city and Winifred McHose Weeks of Vancouver, Washington, who were both with him in the days of his last short illness. There are four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He also leaves his cousin, E. O. Dillin of Nevada.

Mr. McHose has been a continuous resident of Nevada for 52 years, more that half of which were spent in the brick home just west his factory on West Lincoln Way. He came from a long line of McHose brickmakers extending back five generations and now being followed by his grandsons Sam and Don.

Here from a Distance

Among the relatives here from a distance in attendance at the last rites were a niece and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Smithson of Menlo, brother of Mrs. McHose, Alph Sharon of Guthrie Center and Ed Sharon and son Verne of Perry and Mrs. Lucile Chubbock of Des Moines.
