Lewis O. Morrell Rites Tuesday P.M.; Burial in Colo

Funeral services for the late Lewis O. Morell, 83, longtime resident of Story county, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Morfoot Funeral home with Rev. Hugh C. Guy of the Nevada Christian church officiating.

Fred McLain sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" with Mrs. Norman C. Dobson at the organ.

The casket bearers were William Donaldson, Delbert Dewey, Martin McCoy, Ross White, Art Perry and Charles Fleming. Burial was in the family lot in the Colo cemetery.

The following obituary was read by Rev. Guy who also brought words of spiritual comfort the theme of which was "The Good Shepherd."

Lewis O. Morell

Lewis O. Morell was born Feb. 20, 1866, at Clarence, Iowa, being a son of Magnus and Ludmilla Morell, and passed away Sunday morning at 5 o'clock April 3, 1949, at the home of Theresa and Charles Morell, 303 K avenue, here in Nevada, Iowa. He was 83 years, one month and 13 days old. Death resulted from an illness of some nine months during which time he was given all the care that special nursing and care of loved ones could give. Lewis came five years ago to Nevada to live with his niece and nephew, Theresa and Charles Morell. His last illness dated form July 26 of last year, when he was taken to the hospital. Since last September 20, he had been under the care of two nurses at the Morell home.

Mr. Morell came to Colo with his parents when a small boy, and has been a long time resident of Story county. He was engaged in stock buying for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, the brothers being Chas. O.; John O.; Fred O.; and Anthony O. Morell.

Surviving are two brothers: Mannie O. Morell of California, and Ode O. of Wichita, Kansas, and one sister, Miss Anna Morell of Zearing.

Besides immediate relatives he leaves nieces and nephews and many friends in this community who shall long remember him.

Although Mr. Morell was not a member of any church he was a believer in Christ and gave to church projects. He was at one time a member of the Masonic Lodge at Colo, Iowa.

With the passing of Lewis O. Morell another of the Story county pioneers is gone from our midst.

Relatives from a distance in attendance at the last rites were Miss Anna Morell, Zearing, Ode Morell, Wichita, Kansas, Mrs. Ernest Lindstedt of Hastings, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Fred Morell, Billy and Mary K. of Good Thunder, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Roy Morell and Mr. and Mrs Fred Varnum and daughters of Colo, Mr. and Mrs. John Varnum, Veronica, John Jr., and Harvey of Zearng, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd White and Rita Ann of Malcolm, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Devine of West Des Moines and Otto Greffe of Des Moines.
