Obituary

Cyrus Bean was born in a log house on a farm in Kane county, Illinois, on Feb. 15, 1857, and his early schooling was obtained in a log schoolhouse, heated by a wood fire.

On his twenty-second birthday he was married to Marian Brown and a little later the young couple set out in a covered wagon. Their first home was established on a farm near the site where the town of Zearing was later established. Later they moved to this new town and built a home with lumber hauled from State Center. In the years that followed Cyrus served the growing town as constable assessor, councilman and member of the school board. He was postmaster for eight years and secretary of the Zearing creamery for many years.

He and his wife were charter members of the Christian church in Zearing. Mrs. Bean preceded him in death in September 1933.

Survivors

The three children born to this union still survive, Mrs. Grace Campbell, who resides in Zearing, Ernest Bean, state geologist of Wisconsin, who lives in Madison, Wisc., and Ward Bean, who has a home on the shore of Lake Hamilton, near Hot Springs, Arkansas. He is also survived by one brother, six grandchildren and 11 grandchildren.
