Hold Final Rites For Mrs. Anna Thompson

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, April 14, from Cambridge Methodist church for Mrs. Anna Thompson, 83, with Rev. Mark Wetteland in charge.

A quartet, consisting of Mrs. Guy DeHoet, Mrs. Roy Rill, Kermit Griffith and Earl Gardner, sang "Rock of Ages", "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and "Abide With Me", with Mrs. John Dyers at the piano.

The flowers were many and beautiful and gifts to missions were received from relatives and friends.

Casket bearers were Raymond Warren, Ralph Cooper, Otis Warren, E. F. Lewis, Maurice Warren and Harley Elliott. Interment was in the Iowa Center cemetery.

Obituary

Mrs. Anna Thompson was born June 1, 1866, at Hjelmelan, Stavanger, Norway. She was one of six children born to Ellen and John Johnson. At the age of 18, she came to the United States and Story county, Iowa, where she lived throughout the remainder of her life.

She was united in marriage to John O. Thompson on May 10, 1890, at Iowa Center. To this union one son, Arthur Norman, was born. He preceded his parents in death in 1918.

The family resided on a farm, north of Maxwell, for a time before moving to farm at Elwell. Later the family went to Cambridge where all were members of the Methodist church. Mr. Thompson preceded his wife in death in 1943. Since that time Mrs. Thompson had made her home with her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Glendora Thompson.

Mrs. Thompson had been in failing health for the past three years. During that period she had suffered two strokes and on Monday, April 10, she spoke of being ill. She took her illness in her stride and did not complain. On Tuesday, April 12, she collapsed and her family was called to her bedside. She passed away at 6:50 that same evening.

Survivors

Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Glendora Thompson of Cambridge; a grandson, Edgar Thompson of Fort Des Moines; a granddaughter, Mrs. Robert Lexvold of Spencer; three great grandchildren, Carolyn Ann and Robert Harold Lexvold of Spencer and Pamela Ann Thompson of Fort Des Moines; one sister in Mayville, N. Dak.; one niece, Mrs. Ellen Coles of Hillesboro, N. Dak.; two brothers in Norway, and other relatives and friends.
