Final Services For Charles Richardson
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon April 19, at the Elwell Evangelical church for Charles R. Richardson, who passed away Sunday, April 16, at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines.
Rev. Harry Heriem pastor of the M. -- Evangelical United Brethren church of Des Moines, was in charge of the rites.
Mr. Ray G----den of Maxwell sang two hymns "Good Night Here Good Morning Up There" and "Beyond the Sunset" with Mrs. Henry Thornwall at the piano.
Mrs. H---- Griffith and Mrs. John Brown --- charge of the flowers ----- were many and beautiful.
Casket bearers were Morris Longnecker, Everett Scott, Henry Thornwall, Martin Tomlinson, Vern Coles and John Thornwall. Interment was in the Center Grove cemetery.
Obituary
Charles R. Richardson, son of Robert and Mary Richardson, was born Jan. 15, 1871 at Elwell, Iowa less than a mile away from the home were he spent all his married life.
Charles, better known as Charley among his friends, was the youngest son and seventh child of a family of 10 children.
Early in life Mr. Richardson was converted and united with the Elwell Evangelical church. He had let a good Christian life through all these years, a friend of the church and fellowman in many ways that few have known about.
He was united in marriage to May Jory on June 17, 1897, and they moved onto the farm where they lived together for nearly 53 years. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on June 17 1947, when relatives, neighbors and friends gathered at their farm home and surprised them.
He had been in failing health for the past three months and was in the hospital for six weeks. A few weeks after returning home he contracted pneumonia and was again taken to the hospital where he passed away, having reached the age of 79 years and three months.
Survivors
Surviving are his wife, May; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Forrester of Ogden, Utah and Mrs. Effie Bittner of Waterloo, 20 nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
