Hold Final Services For Thos. J. Thompson
Last rites were held in Story City on Monday afternoon for T. J. Thompson, life-long resident of the Story City community, who died on April 12th. The services, in the St. Petri Lutheran church at 2 o'clock and in the Larson-Peterson Funeral home at 1:30, were conducted by the Rev. S. T. Nelson.
Special music was provided by Mrs. Robert Hermanson, who sang at the church "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Abide with Me", and by Pastor Nelson, who sang at the prayer service the Norwegian hymn, "Den Store Hvide Flok."
Interment was in the Story City cemetery. Casket bearers were Abe Thompson, Jr., Thomas Thompson, George Abbas, Virgil Anderson, Harris Hill and Myron Rod.
Obituary
Thomas J. Thompson, son of Mons and Betsy Thompson, was born in Story City, Iowa, Aug. 5, 1872. His life time was spent in the Story City community. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Petri Lutheran church and was a life-long member of the congregation. During his years of better health he was active in church and community affairs.
On May 6, 1903, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Nelson. Seven children were born to this union. One child preceded the father in death.
Mr. Thompson spent most of his years on the farm, retiring to Story City in the year of 1942.
While on the way to visit relatives in Minnesota he was seriously injured in a car accident on April 10th. He was taken to a hospital at Jackson, Minn., where he passed away the morning of April 12, at the age of 77 years, eight months and seven days.
Survivors
He is survived by his wife, May, two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Mildred) Hermanson and Mrs. Arnold (Alice) Haugland, both of Story City; four sons, Clarence, Leonard and Theodore, all of Story City, and Alvin of Los Angeles, Cal.; one brother, Abe Thompson of Clarion, Iowa, and 16 grandchildren.
