Obituary

Achsah Delena Hill, the third daughter of a family of nine children of William and Hannah Hill, was born in Randolph county, Indiana, March 31, 1861. Two years later the family moved to the Honey Creek neighborhood north of Bangor in Marshall county, Iowa. In 1874 they moved to near McCallsburg and there she was married to Franklin P. Thomas, January 1, 1880. To this union were born eight children. Four of them preceded their mother in death; they were Jakie who died in infancy, William, Viola and Alice Gertrude. Mr. Thomas also preceded his wife in death.

During most of the years from 1880 to 1920 the Thomas family lived in and near McCallsburg, but since 1920 Mrs. Thomas has made her home in Nevada. She was raised in a Quaker family but since her marriage she has been a member of the Presbyterian church in McCallsburg and Nevada. She was active in missionary work, women's activities, teaching Sunday school classes, and was faithful in attendance at the services of her church. She was a devout Christian and a kind and loving mother.

Although in failing health in recent years she remained remarkably alert and active for her age until only the last few days of her life. She was conscious and recognized members of her family only a few minutes before her death. She passed away at the Young Nursing Home in Ames, April 11, 1950 at the age of 89 years.

She is survived by two brothers, Henry Hill of Peterson, Iowa; Charlie Hill of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; a sister, Nettie Mitchell of Liberty, Missouri; three sons, Walter of Cambridge, Charlie of Nevada, Herman of Roland, and one daughter Hannah of Nevada. She also leaves fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Her many friends join these loved ones in the feeling of loss that comes with the passing of this fine, friendly, faithful Christian.
