Final Services For Mrs. Bertha Ekeland
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 2, at the Central Lutheran church in Des Moines for Mrs. Bertha Ekeland, 70, who passed away Monday evening, Feb. 27, at her home in Des Moines.
Ruth Langfust, Eleanor Rodd and Louise Oglum sang "Rock of Ages" and "Abide With Me." Miss Langfust also sang a solo, "Have Thine Own Way Lord."
Rev. G. E. Lokengard was in charge of the services and Rev. Peder Buland of Cambridge conducted the graveside service.
Casket bearers were members from the Central Lutheran Church.
Obituary
Bertha Severson was the second of seven children born to Severt J. and Arabella Severson. She was born on a farm near Cambrisge Oct. 4, 1879, and was baptized and confirmed in the Palestine church, where on Feb. 20, 1908, she was united in marriage to Jens J. Ekeland. They moved to Alsen, N. Dak., where they were among the first members of the Zion Lutheran church.
To this union eight children were born, one son, Jeffrey, dying in infancy.
Mr. Ekeland passed away suddenly at Alsen in 1929. Mrs. Ekeland and her family moved back to Cambridge in 1935, where they lived until eight years ago when they moved to Des Moines to make their home.
Survivors
Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Ann Morris of Louisville, Ky., Mrs. Sylvia Hall of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Bernette Wehleitner* of Bismarck, N. Dak., Mrs. Evelyn Shove, Mrs. Janet Thompson and Miss Ruth Ekeland of Des Moines, and one son, James, of Los Angeles, California. Her mother, Mrs. Arabella Severson of Slater, and four grandchildren; three brothers, J. E. Severson of Stanley, N. Dak., Oscar and Elmer Severson of Cambridge, and one sister, Mrs. Bessie Skola of Slater, also survive.
Two brothers preceded her in death.
