EVA L. TILTON

COLLINS -- Funeral services were held for Eva L. Tilton Monday afternoon, May 5, 1958 at the Methodist church in Collins with the Rev. John L. Alexander officiating. Music was furnished by Pat Caulkins, Naomi Pointer and Dorothy Holland who sang "Prayer Perfect", accompanied by Frances Stone on the piano. Mrs. Grace Robinson played instrumental music on the organ before and after the services.

Casket bearers were nephews namely: Horace Ozmun, Floyd Atwood, Lowell Atwood, David Renfeldt, Jay Taylor and George Koehler.

Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Doris Mullihan and Mrs. Doris Boris.

Burial we in the Peoria cemetery southwest of Collins and was in charge of the Brouhard Funeral Home in Zearing.

Life Sketch

Eva L. Tilton was born on a farm south of Collins, Iowa on July 26, 1876, and died at her home in Collins Friday evening, May 2, 1958 at the age of 81 years, 10 months and six days.

She was the oldest living member of the seven children born to David and Melissa Southern.

In 1893 she was married to John Kern and to this union were born three children. Mr. Kern died in 1906 and in 1909 she was married to Glen Tilton and made her home in Collins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen who died in 1939, a brother John Southern and a sister, Mrs. Marie Mulcahy.

She was a charter member of unit No. 81 of the American Legion Auxiliary and was its first president. She was also a member of the Collins Methodist church and a charter member of the Collins Rebekah Lodge No. 159.

Survivors are her three children, Mrs. Cora Crabb of Collins, Dewey Kern of Collins and Mrs. Mable Kern of Davenport; three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Ozmun, Mrs. Jessie Atwood, Mrs. Lena Renfeldt and one brother, Harvey Southern, all of Collins; four grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
