Ira Harris Mason.

Ira Harris Mason was born in New York state Nov. 25, 1847 and died at his home in Story county, Iowa Thursday, March 2, 1916 aged 68 years, 3 months and 6 days. In 1869 he with his brother moved on to the farm about three miles north of Colo which has since been their home. Mr. Mason was a man of sterling qualities, upright and honest in business, a kind and loyal friend and neighbor, always practicing the Golden Rule, doing to other as he would have them do unto him. He had not been well for some time. On Sunday, Feb. 27 he became worse and continued to fail rapidly until released by death. He bore his suffering very patiently as he had borne all suffering and troubles during his life time. His immediate relatives who are left to mourn their loss are his brother Edwin Mason and niece Miss Margaret Gladstone. These three have shared the same home for many years. Funeral services were held in the M. E. church at Johnsons Grove at 11 a. m. Sunday conducted by Rev. G. H. Johnson and he was laid to rest in Oakhill cemetery. Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral services were Mr. Albert Carpenter a cousin from Marion, Dr. Hogle of Mt. Vernon, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Fenton and daughter Miss Bess of Jewell and Mr. Shammo of Nevada. The entire community extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
