Funeral Services at Collins for Glen A. Tilton

Special to the Journal.
Collins, Dec. 9--Funeral Services for Glen A. Tilton, Collins business man, who passed away at his home Monday morning Dec. 4 after an illness of more than two years, were held at the local Methodist church Wednesday at 2:00 p. m. with the Rev. Paul McDade of Des Moines in charge of the services, assisted by the Rev. Chas. Fix. Two songs "No Night There" and "Day Is Done" was sung by a male quartet consisting of Chas. Shearer, G. E. Holmes, Milton Hale and Tom Huntrods with Mrs. Fred Mead at the piano. Chas. Kime and son Warren of New Hampton, by special request played a trumpet duet, the son also playing as a solo "The Rosary."

The many lovely floral offerings were arranged at the church and grave by Mrs. J. R. Armstrong and Mrs. Ora Hanson. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery acting as pallbearers. They were Horace and David Ozmun, Floyd and Lowell Atwood, Pearl Fevers and Joe Tilton.

The following is a brief sketch of the life of the deceased.

Glen A. Tilton, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Tilton was born in Ogle county, Illinois on June 29, 1880, and passed away Monday morning Dec. 4, 1939 at the age of 59 years, 5 months and 5 days. He came to Collins as a young man to manage the telephone exchange, later becoming the owner, until disposing of his interest several years ago.

He was first married to Agnes Dodd of Toledo. After her death he was again married to Mrs. Eva Kern of Collins. He is survived by his wife, his aged mother Mrs. Saretta Tilton, three step children, Mrs. Cora Crabb and Dewey Kern of Collins and Mrs. Mabel Kimberley of Fulton, Ill., a step grandchild, Mrs. Wm. Fritz of Bettendorf, Ia., one brother Claude Tilton of Marshalltown and a host of other relatives and friends.

The services were largely attended, people coming from a distance to pay their respects to one whom they had known and respected through the years.

He was a jovial, friendly man, interested in the community and its welfare and ever willing to give his time and talents to make it a better place in which to live. The greater part of his life was spent in Collins and his passing is deeply mourned.
