Rites in Roland For Abel Tweedt

Funeral services for the late Abel J. Tweedt, former Roland resident, who passed away from old age and complications at the Sun Valley sanitarium in Pasadena, Calif., on June 9, were held in Roland, Thursday, June 14, at the Bergent Lutheran church. Burial was in the Roland cemetery.

The pall bearers were J. O. Twedt, O. E. Twedt and M. D. Johnson of Roland, Albert Twedt of Nevada, C. J. Twedt of Forest City and John Sampson of Ames.

Obituary

Abel J. Tweedt, youngest son of the late Jon and Carrie Nelson Tweedt*, was born at Kvindhaering, Norway on August 27, 1861 and came to America as a young boy with his parents. He grew to manhood in the Roland community.

He was married, to Mary Rame in 1883 and she passed away in 1895. He was married to Jane Wicks on Oct. 22, 1897. He spent most of his life in the Roland community, going to California a number of years ago.

Survivors

He is survived by four daughters and one son by the first marriage and three daughters and two sons by the second marriage. they are Mrs. George Swanson of Estherville, Mrs. E. H. Melcher of Storm Lake, Hal H. Twedt of Cleveland, Ohio, Burney Everett in the U. S. Navy, Mrs. Charles E. Johnson and Mrs. Constance O'Donnell of Pasadena, Calif., Mrs. Harvey James of Los Angeles, Mrs. D. L. Aarsmith of Burbank, Calif., and Mrs. Otis Anderson of Roland. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
