Funeral Services Held For Mrs. John Rainey

MAXWELL:- Funeral services held Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 27 from the Maxwell Methodist Church for Mrs. Edna Rainey, 62, who passed away at her home quite suddenly on Sunday after an illness of three years.

Rev. George Yetter officiated at the services.

Mrs. Laura Pearson accompanied by Mrs. Jean Mohler sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Beyond the Sunset."

Casket bearers were Virgil Swarm, Gayle Lee, Tolferd Sesker, William Coates, Elmer Whitaker, and Joel Seversike.

The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Thelma Weeks and Mrs. Florence Mohr.

Burial was in White Oak Cemetery.

Obituary

Edna May Elliott, daughter of Ira Ivin and Lottie Scott Elliott, was born near Cambridge Jan. 9, 1895 and lived her entire life in the Cambridge, Shipley and Maxwell communities. She attended Scott Valley, Cambridge High School, and Normal School in Nevada, teaching in the public schools of Story County several years.

On August 26, 1914, she was united in marriage to John C. Rainey of Mount Vernon, Ill. To this union three sons and one daughter were born--all of whom survive.

Preceding in death were her father, Ira Ivin Elliott, May 12, 1935 and a sister in infancy.

Mrs. Rainey united with the Cambridge Methodist Church in 1920. In later years she attended the Maxwell Methodist Church where she was a member of the WSCS Circle and where she taught a Sunday School Class until her latest illness.

The public school and its activities were of special interest to her. She was a long time member of the Urs and Myne Club and president of the K.Y.N. Club.

The floral offerings were many and beautiful. A memorial fund was started in her name.

Survivors are her husband, John C. Rainey; a daughter, Mrs. Gloria Crosswaite of Ringsted; sons, Harold of Des Moines, Calvin of Maxwell, and Lowell, at home; eleven grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Lottie Elliott of Cambridge; sisters, Mrs. Sylvia Bump of Colo, Mrs. Elva Schuler of Fernald, Mrs. Goldie Denny of Willow River, Minn.; brothers, Ivin S., Frank, James and Leo Elliott of Cambridge and other relatives and many friends.

Friends and relatives were in attendance at the service from Willow River, Minn.; Minneapolis, Minn.; Rockwell City, Fort Dodge, Des Moines, State Center, Malcolm, Kelley, Cambridge, Slater, Huxley, Ames, Shipley, Fernald, Colo and Maxwell.
